I was enjoying a lovely walk through the woods by my place when I stumbled upon an assault to my eyes, nothing life-threatening, but in this pristine environment, it really made my blood pressure go up.

I happened to be talking on the phone to my friend and I interrupted our conversation to voice my displeasure...

"OMG, I can't believe people are so..." blah, blah, blah, I went on and on - until he stopped me in my tracks and said...

"Well, what are you going to do about it?"

Crickets.

Point taken.

We all encounter obstacles that block our performance, hinder our thinking and/or block our progress. Instead of letting these things hold us back, what can we do that will empower us?

For me, it meant going back the next day with a garbage bag and gloves to clean up the mess ('Watch for needles.' my policeman son cautioned).

In other situations it might mean:

  • Standing up for yourself
  • Shifting your attitude
  • Asking for support
  • Saying no
  • Putting yourself first
  • Sucking it up
  • Negotiating

et al...

Asking yourself, "What are you going to do about it?" can be a strong motivator and a reminder that we are not powerless victims of our circumstances, rather we are capable agents of change.

We can use these opportunities to make a positive difference, big or small.

I'd love to hear what you are going to do about it!
