That's interesting.

That's interesting?

That's interesting!

What's something you've found interesting lately?

Is your life interesting enough for you?

Do you crave interesting?

Do you lean toward or away from the interesting?

Personally, I love the interesting, I may even be an interesting-aholic; so when I saw the book The Art of Interesting by Lorraine Besser, PhD., I was - well - interested!

She makes a great case equating having a good life with the amount of interesting you have in it and gives many ideas to help you seek out the interesting.

Here are a few of my interpretations as takeaways:

The Interesting Zone - differentiating between the comfort zone and the danger zone and noticing an opportunity for adventure in between the two. This is the sweet spot of too little risk and too much.

Open your eyes to the world around you and follow your instincts wherever they lead. Lean in to what is interesting to you.

Implement engagement strategies - for example if you are bored, instead of trying to disengage from your task (say, daydreaming while driving) try to engage with the nuances around you (say, noticing changes in the road or surroundings). Other ways to do this could be - pick one sense to focus on, pretend you are in a different role (say, an artist) and imagine how things would be from that lens. Make guesses or predictions (I wonder what would happen if... or wonder how this space will look in 20 years. Think beyond what is possible - if i had a magic wand what would I change right now?

See life as an adventure and find value in the challenges! An obstacle presents challenges that must be met to get to the finish line (the good stuff), an adventure contains challenges, the surmounting of which is in itself good

Embrace curiosity and creativity - the interesting may just happen upon you and/or you may have to go out and grab it!

Stop planning everything - when I am prepping my keynotes, I try to leave 15% unplanned to give space for the interesting to emerge (and it always does!).

Ensure a blend of time for solitude and a time for connection with others. Both will enhance the interesting in your life.

For me, my monthly challenges help me grow forward in a fun, fast and interesting way! Last month, my bestie and I drew a comic a day and this month we are doing a haiku a day - both very interesting - to me

Now...your life, your version, your plan...

I repeat...

What's something you've found interesting lately?

Is your life interesting enough for you?

Do you crave interesting?

Do  you lean toward or away from the interesting?

If you think you would benefit from a little more interesting in your life, scroll back up and pick a couple of ideas to try!

AND...if you have an interesting idea, I'd love for you to share it with me - just click reply!

The goal is to have a psychologically rich life and adding a sprinkle more of interesting is one more way to get it and live, Your Life, Unlimited!

Funny of the Day

I misspelled the word 'understand' in an email and autocorrect replaced it with 'underpants'! #AlwaysProofread #oops

Where in the world is Steph?

I'll be in Arizona Keynoting at a Dental event this week.

I've spent much of my speaking career working in the States and the US has been very good to me. I have friends there who have changed my life in amazing ways. My audiences have been always been very welcoming and grateful. I believe we are more alike than we are different and that even with the differences, we can all learn and grow. I am so appreciative of the privilege I have had (and continue to have) to work and play in the US.

So I'll be in Arizona, sharing ideas to be happier, healthier and have better relationships; I know it will be an interesting experience! If you have any recommendations for things to do or people to see in AZ, I'm all ears.

Have an interesting week (and feel free to share with me what that looks like for you!)  Steph
