Are you getting what you expect?
The Expectation Effect is a fascinating psychological phenomenon where our beliefs and expectations can actually influence outcomes - essentially, what we expect often becomes our reality.
We've all had it happen for better and for worse - it's like we think things into being so. May as well think positive, I say!
Here are some examples:
Hotel Housekeeping Study:
Researchers told one group of hotel cleaners that their work was good exercise and these cleaners lost more weight and had better health metrics. Just expecting their work to be exercise made it more beneficial.
Coffee Test:
People who were given decaf coffee but told it was regular reported feeling more alert; their expectations of caffeine created real energy effects.
Student Success:
When teachers are told certain students are "gifted" (randomly selected), those students tend to perform better. Was it the higher expectations that caused the change?
What are you expecting these days?
I am expecting the world to conspire in my favour! In fact, because I happen to see the number 111 so often in my life, I say those exact words to myself whenever I see them. The world is conspiring in my favour!
Here are some examples of the Expectation Effect in my world...
- I am expecting to do a wonderful job for the organizations that trust me on their stages.
- I am expecting to continue filling my life with inspiring people.
- I am expecting to be strong, fit and healthy for a long time to come.
- I am expecting to have unending, precious ties with my partner and my family.
- I am expecting to make myself a better person and the world a better place.
- I am expecting to be able to generate a never-ending stream of creative and helpful ideas.
- I am expecting that most people will be good.
Harness the Expectation Effect in your daily life by setting positive expectations, so you may create better outcomes.
Can't hurt!

An App I Love
I love it when people share ideas/things/hacks that are working for them, sometimes (not all) they work for me, too.
With that in mind, today I'm sharing with you an app I've been using for the last few months that has been really interesting, informative and to tell you the truth, downright scary at times.
It has a rating of 4.8 with over 17 thousand reviews, it's independent, it's ad-free, cost-free and it is available in 4 languages and, in case you are wondering, I have no product affiliation with them at all. I am sharing because it's been helpful to me and my family.
It's called Yuka, it's a food and cosmetic scanner and its purpose is to help you evaluate the quality of what you are putting in and on your body.
A simple scan of the bar code rates your product out of 100 and deems it on a color-coded scale of 'excellent' to 'poor'. The assessment is based on things such as additives (hazardous substances), fiber, salt etc.
Now, obviously, it's easy to rate some foods on your own if you have a bag of chips in one hand and raspberries in the other but some items are really hard to decipher for the lay shopper - i.e. me.
Yuka helps me make better choices, quickly and easily.
One of the things I love about it is that it will often give you recommendations for better choices. For example, I was shocked to see the tuna I scanned (Oceans) was rated 49/100 (poor) due to the Disodium Diphosphate (which it deemed as a hazardous texturizing agent) but I was happy to see its recommendation for Clover Leaf tuna rated at 84/100 (excellent). It made an easy to choose from an overwhelming number of choices.
It's obviously not the be-all and end-all and I'm sure it's imperfect, however, it sure knows more than I know and just like everything in the personal development world, awareness is key.
