Fun in the bathroom!

I’ve never had such a good time in a public bathroom.

Scurrying through a short layover in Atlanta, I made a quick stop at the ladies’ room — typically an uneventful part of travel. But not this day.

Because on this particular day, Shonda and Cynthia were on duty.

Loud and proud, they were greeting bathroom “guests” one by one.

“Good monin’, good monin’, good monin’!” they called out in their awesome accents. “Come on in and meet a new friend!”

I have never seen so many women so happy in a bathroom. We were smiling, chatting, and laughing — total strangers united in a moment of unexpected joy.

Shonda and Cynthia had turned a simple transactional experience into a transformational one.

They could have just cleaned that bathroom. But instead, they owned it. (And no, they weren’t looking for tips.) They welcomed us like we were walking into their living room.

What some might call a menial job became their mission. They made it matter. They purposely, deliberately, and joyfully created an experience that shifted the mood of everyone who entered.

So here’s my question for you:

What do you do every day that might seem mundane, unexciting, or ordinary — that you could add a little “Good monin’, good monin’, good monin’!” to?

It doesn’t take any extra take time, money, or effort to shift from transactional to transformational.

Just a moment of intention.  A spark of joy.  A little more you!
