Wise Advice from 3 Readers
In case you missed it...check out this 2 min video.
Where in the World is Steph?
Without a doubt, I learn more than I teach. Today all the learnings come from our bright, Your Life, Unlimited community members.
1. On reading fiction ...
In a previous issue I casually mentioned how reading fiction feels 'decadent' to me (like I 'should' be reading something more 'useful'). This wise reader picked up on that nuance and sent me this note...
"I just wanted to tell you how important reading fiction can be for one’s growth. Not only self help can be, well, helpful :)
I grew up in not the best environment but books saved me. I had more than one therapist tell me it was through books that I learned how to process things. Books filled the void I did not get from my parents in so many ways. Books helped me understand people, situations, feelings, etc.. and I’ve always read fiction. Only recently I’ve started reading self help.
I vote for you freeing yourself from this barrier you created and give it a try!
So I did a little digging and...
"According to research from the University of Toronto and a study published in Science, reading fiction can significantly boost empathy, social understanding, and even brain function."
- thanks Nina! If you are like me and have the niggling feeling that reading fiction is 'not productive - let's get out of our own way!

2. His grandpa said...
At a recent speaking event a gentleman came up to me after and presented me with a two dollar bill. He explained to me that his Grandfather always carried two dollar bills and gave them to people that made a positive impact on him. Awww!
I thought this was such a beautiful idea and so cool that it has spanned the generations. I asked him to sign my new bill; it will not be spent and will hold a special place in my studio (aka office). That two dollars is worth a whole lot more to me than two dollars; it's meaningful and validating to me.
Also, I found out that Foris is actually retired and he still comes to professional development events! Why? To support his colleagues as others have supported him. Thank you, Foris, you are so inspiring - your grandpa would be so proud!
Now, what can we do/give/say to honour someone who has made a positive difference in our day?

3. Relationship tip...
More advice from a reader in response from this 2 min video called 'If it's important to them'.
Carolyn wrote, "I had the conversation with my husband this week a version of...
When someone wants to do something and it is not on the top of your list ask yourself...does it make them happy, is it good for the relationship or is it an opportunity to spend time together. A bit of a take on radio (both our past lives) is it good for listeners, station and/or customer. If you can tick two out of three then it is a good thing to do.
The idea of course as long as one is not being endangered, physically, mentally, or way out of their comfort zone."
Isn't that wise; I hope The Hub will see this!
Thanks for sharing your ideas, folks; when one wins, we all win!

Where in the World is Steph?
Off to Toronto and Niagara Falls and if you haven't been there yet, put them on your travel lists!
And for my American friends that have said, "We want to visit Canada but we aren't sure how you feel about us." I'm here to say we still love you and would be ever-so-happy to have you visit! Come on up!
Thanks for being, Steph
